Sell your desktop app.

We look for Mac and Windows apps that people pay for and keep using: utilities, editors and focused tools, sold by subscription or as upgradable licences.

§ T.1

Does Playbook Media buy desktop apps?Part of our productivity search.

Fig. T.1Short answer

Yes, when customers buy upgrades or renew, the app is maintained for current operating systems and the build can move to a new owner.

  • Good fit: utilities and focused tools with loyal, paying users.
  • We look for: repeat purchases, a clean signing setup and a documented release process.
  • After a sale: existing licences stay valid.

§ T.2

Why this kind of business can last.Desktop apps

A well-made desktop utility can serve the same customers for many years.

People who pay for a native app often value quality and stay loyal.

Each operating system release is a chance to earn the next upgrade.

§ T.3

Strong and weaker signals. What we look for first.

Strong fit

  • Repeat purchases, upgrades or subscriptions.
  • Signing certificates and store accounts that can transfer.
  • A build that runs on current operating systems.

Weaker fit

  • An app that depends on a deprecated system feature.
  • No upgrade path, so revenue depends on new customers only.
  • A build that only works on the founder’s computer.

§ T.4

What happens after a sale.Continuity first.

Licences that customers bought stay valid. We plan any change to pricing with care and explain it clearly.

We make the build and release process reproducible before we change features.

We do not buy to resell, and we do not plan around an immediate rewrite or unsupported price increases.

§ T.5

Questions founders ask.About desktop apps.

How do you look at one-time purchases?

We look at repeat purchases, upgrade cycles and maintenance work. Monthly recurring revenue is the wrong measure for this model.

Can app store accounts transfer?

Often, under each store’s rules. We plan the transfer during the records review.

Is this a separate search?

No. The same search profile applies to every business type: $5k–$20k in monthly recurring revenue and three to eight years of history are preferences, not cut-offs.
